Ffordd Pawb/ Coherent Connections- an innovative project comes to Bangor

The six 91快活林 students are contributing their combined knowledge of psychology, tourism and business to , a project which brings students from different disciplines and countries together to pool their knowledge to resolve problems. Elop stands for 鈥渆nvironment-focused learning and operative platform鈥 and is a new approach to teaching that provides students with the skills and techniques for a dynamic career in a complex and challenging future.

In this project, Ffordd Pawb / Coherent Connections, the students will be addressing real issues and assessing the shape of Bangor鈥檚 future, looking in particular at mobility, the sharing economy, tourism and new ideas about how services are provided. These ideas have been drawn from consultation with stakeholders including Gwynedd Council, the Welsh Government and, most importantly, the residents and businesses of Bangor.

Professor John Parkinson, Head of the School of Psychology explains:

The solution is to bring specialists from different areas together to combine their different perspectives and expertise into transdisciplinary teams. These groups then develop unique insight into the problem and produce innovative solutions that are co-created directly with the communities their ideas will affect.

鈥淥ur students will be working on a real-world project that will consider the future of Bangor, developing proposals that could produce a lasting transformation to the prosperity of the city.

The value of this is twofold; not only are students able to participate in a ground-breaking process, but truly innovative ideas are also developed, presenting the capacity for real change.鈥

The events in Bangor are taking place at . Dr Andy Goodman, Director of Arloesi Pontio Innovation, and the Lead for elop*9 in Bangor said:

鈥淚t is a privilege that elop has come to Bangor this year. It is an amazing student experience and will inspire novel proposals for positive change to the area.鈥

The international elop coordinator Kathrin Merz, from Bern University of Applied Sciences, Switzerland added 鈥淲e have developed the elop* process and platform over several years, developing projects around the world including in Switzerland, Germany, Stanford, USA and Quer茅taro, Mexico. I am delighted that we are in Bangor right now and look forward to the elop* process unfolding here over the next months.鈥

The elop*9 project in Bangor runs for the next 3 months with a period of virtual collaboration in between physical meetings in Bangor in October 2016 and January 2017. It is being held in the Pontio Innovation spaces as part of Arloesi Pontio Innovation.
