Transferring knowledge of psychology to the workplace

People are the heart of successful businesses 鈥� and 91快活林鈥檚 School of Psychology is inviting people to discover how psychology can be used in the workplace to unleash potential and fulfill individual ambitions.

 

As the event organiser, Dr Val Morrison, Deputy Head of School (Knowledge Transfer) and chartered health psychologist said: 鈥淔or those who work or wish to work, an understanding of what motivates performance or behaviour, influences whether we are good or bad leaders or managers, and affects how we deal with any workplace stress, has likely benefits to the wellbeing and performance of every individual employee, manager or employer.  Psychological research carried out at Bangor provides an evidence base on which individuals and organisations can, and do, act.  By describing exciting academic-business collaborations, training and intervention programmes delivered nationally and internationally, we hope that this event will demonstrate just how much psychology can offer you on your doorstep.鈥�

 

Building on the success of the last two year鈥檚 Knowledge Transfer Days, the School of Psychology are holding a third event on Friday 26th November at the Powis Hall in the Main Arts Building. The Knowledge Transfer Day will highlight their expertise and work in relation to psychology in the workplace.

 

The day will be opened with an address by Prof Dame Carol Black, National Director for Health and Work. The programme will include talks and interactive sessions on the following:

 

  • Consumer psychology
  • Recognising and supporting employees with dyslexia
  • Positive psychology
  • Using cognitive psychology in recruitment
  • Leadership
  • Mindfulness-based approaches to help combat occupational stress
  • Delivering worksite interventions for those with alcohol problems
  • Opportunities for business-academic partnerships
  • Worksite interventions for those with alcohol problems
  • Health services and implementation of research

 

Interested people can network with other professionals and hear from leaders in their field about how psychology can be of benefit to them at work.
